The TRUTH About What’s Holding You Back Financially (and in Every Area of Your Life)!
Feb 19, 2020
You want to achieve true, lasting, financial freedom and peace of mind?
I’ve thought a lot about the financial problems so many people are dealing with before and during this crisis and it breaks my heart knowing what people are going through.
In over 25 years of working with thousands of people from all walks of life, I want to share what I believe is the number one reason people are struggling financially and why they can’t seem to get out of the rat race and achieve prosperity.
I think this will help you. A lot.
I know, life is hard on a lot of people and families right now. I’m hearing from a lot of people around the world – the fear, the stress, the desperation.
I’m with you on this and hopefully I can offer some insight, some ideas to alleviate a lot of your suffering.
We’re going to get through this, and I even believe stronger than ever.
The world is not coming to end. That’s what the media wants us to believe and they will stretch this out as long as they can.
So please, be conscious of that. And be conscious about what and how much you’re listening to and watching. All that negativity can really add to your stress and as I’ve discussed at length many times before, stress is not your friend.
I believe the number one reason people are suffering financially and why people are trapped in the rat race and unable to live the life they want and deserve is because of their belief system. In fact, it’s their limited belief system, or call it your harmful belief system, that is the key to why people are struggling in life.
Your beliefs determine everything about you – how you think, act, behave, and, ultimately, who you become. Your beliefs drive everything in your life and determine your destiny.
But here’s the problem. Research indicates that 70 percent of your beliefs are associated with negativity. They are disempowering and lead to us self-sabotage.
Your beliefs are like a computer program running non-stop in your subconscious without your awareness. They’re basically on auto-pilot dictating everything you do.
When you consider that your subconscious controls 95 percent of your thinking and being, and beliefs are the core of your subconscious, that’s a powerful force working against you.
When we have broken beliefs, our actions are rooted in those beliefs. Then our new actions reinforce the same beliefs we had previously. The hardwiring in our brain becomes more deeply rooted, thus making change even more difficult.
The good news is that there is nothing wrong with you. Like a computer, you simply have a virus that needs to be removed – and best of all, no scalpel is required.
If you want to change your future, if you truly want to make a difference in your life and overcome your sources of stress and anxiety, you need to change your limiting beliefs.
As I often say, ‘Change your beliefs and you’ll change your life forever.’
The first thing you need to do is understand and accept the idea that your beliefs are the source of many decisions you’ve made (including mistakes and bad choices).
Now, winding back to your financial struggles, here are a few examples of limited beliefs around money:
- Money is the root of all evil.
- The rich are greedy.
- The rich get richer and poor get poorer.
- The system is rigged against me.
- I never learned this in school.
- It’s too complicated.
- I’m not good with math.
- I never grew up around money.
- I need to look the part.
- I need to dress for success.
- I need the iPhone or the new car or the new XYZ to be happier.
- (And the big one) I don’t have time.
These are all limiting beliefs.
In fact, these are just lies you keep telling yourself that are causing you to take destructive actions holding you back from the life you deserve.
So here’s a powerful exercise from the best-selling author Byron Katie. (I tweaked it a bit.)
Take some time and jot down all the beliefs you have involving money. Go as long as you need to. This may take some time – maybe even days - to come up with all of them.
Once you have your list, then look at each of them carefully and slow-think these (following) questions, and be as descriptive as you possibly can in your answers:
- When and where did this belief come from? (You may suddenly realize this belief came from a place of negativity or from someone in your life that really did not have your best interest at heart.)
- Is this belief 100 percent true? (Test the validity of this belief. Is it true or just your opinion? Is personal finance really that complicated? (No it’s not.) Do you need to be good at math? (No you don’t, and on a side note I’m living proof of that!) Do you really need to dress for success? (No, you don’t.) Do you really not have time to deal with this money stuff? (No, you can find time.)
What I hope you’ll soon discover is that these beliefs are not true and you’ve been using them as excuses that ultimately leading to harmful behaviors that you’re not even aware of.
Lastly, ask yourself, what would your life look like if you didn’t have this belief.
- Take some time and really think about your answers. Spend a few days or longer with your list and answers.
The revelation may not happen immediately, but hopefully in time you’ll have that “aha” moment and realize those beliefs you’ve been carrying around are not 100 percent true and they’ve been a huge barrier that’s holding you back.
The awareness of this is extremely powerful because it puts you on another side – it allows you to separate yourself and see those beliefs from a distance and not as a part of you.
Keep this list handy and refer to it often. It will help.
My sincere wish for you is that you emerge as the person you desire and deserve to be. It’s yours for the taking, if you take action.
Please don’t go another day, stuck in that trap you’ve been living in. Start now to a new way of life, a new beginning, and reawaken the spirit within you.
